Kyle Chrisley has dealt with many ups and downs through the years.
“I’ve never been very good at talking about my struggles but lately I see so many people hurting … so I’m sharing my story in hopes I can help just one person see there is another side to the pain,” the Chrisley Knows Best alum — who father Todd Chrisley shares with ex-wife Teresa Terry, alongside their daughter, Lindsie Chrisley — wrote via Instagram in December 2022. “3 [years] ago I tried to end my life. … For years, I struggled with self-worth. I had no sense of belonging, never felt good enough.”
Kyle continued at the time: “My relationship with my family was rocky to say the least. I turned to drugs and eventually was labeled as an addict. I fought to prove myself not just to myself but to everyone around me. … Today, I am happier than I have ever been in my entire life. I know my worth. I do belong. I am wanted. I am needed. I am loved. And so are you.”
Kyle’s famous family — including stepmom Julie Chrisley, whom Todd wed in 1996, and half-siblings Chase Chrisley, Savannah Chrisley and Grayson Chrisley — rose to fame on their Chrisley Knows Best reality TV show, which premiered on USA Network in 2014. While Todd and Julie, alongside their youngest three children, starred on the docuseries, Kyle was often absent amid family drama. In 2013, Todd and Julie received custody of Kyle’s daughter, Chloe, after he was arrested for assault.
“Chloe is our family, and we are glad that the world gets to see such a beautiful child grow, explore and come into herself so brilliantly through love and respect,” the Growing Up Chrisley patriarch, who was sentenced to prison in 2022 after he and Julie were found guilty of fraud, exclusively told Us Weekly in December 2017 of his adopted daughter filming episodes of Chrisley Knows Best.
While Chloe grew up with her paternal grandparents, aunts and uncles, Kyle eventually mended fences with his family after he was hospitalized following his 2019 suicide attempt.
“9 months ago, I went to my dad with an apology. His words were, ‘I love you always and you are forgiven,’” Kyle wrote via Facebook that August, noting that he, Lindsie and their mother were “responsible” for turning Todd in for tax evasion, claims which the Georgia native has fervently denied. “And just like that, I was welcomed back into his life with open arms. I will be forever grateful for his love [and] graciousness.”
He added at the time: “I will continue to stand as a united front alongside my mom, my dad and the rest of my family.”
Kyle, who married wife Ashleigh Nelson in April 2021, made headlines nearly two years later when he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Us confirmed in March 2023 that the reality TV alum was booked by the Smyrna Police Department in Tennessee, where he was eventually released on a $3,000 bond.
